AUGUSTULUS, Romulus, the last Roman emperor of the West, ascending the throne in 475 and surrendering it to the barbaians a year later, With him ended the Western Roman Empire.

Romulus Augustulus succeeded his father, Orestes, but was overthrown by Odoacer, a year after taking charge of the government, and was banished to the castle of Lucullus in Campania.
